Intimate Magic
Known as "micro-magic" in Britain, branded as "close-up magic" in the United Staes, and sometimes called "pocket magic," Intimate Magic is one of the newest branches of magical entertainment. Promoted by such greats as Dai Vernon at the Magic Castle, close-up magic has used all kinds of small props: cards, coins, bills, napkins, paper clips, rubber bands, matches, pens, pocket knives, and even food.
Although small in size, close-up magic sometimes has been said to have a bigger impact than the larger-sized stage illusions, perhaps because the magic happens only inches from the eyes of the audience and often happens right in the participants' own hands. Intimate Magic has become a commercial form of magic in various venues where magic was once unknown as professional magicians perform at tables in restaurants, strolling among mingling guests at receptions and parties, at the bar, or in booths at trade shows.
